"Vimto" (smudgey)

I've only owned you for 7 months, but I wanted to thank you for being the best car I've ever owned.
For putting up with me using you to move 600 miles, overloaded to the point where your tow hitch mounted bike rack dug into the ground and got stuck.
For never complaining when it was time for the 3rd beach trip in a given week, even though you knew you were collecting more sand than Bikini Bottom.
For taking me on impromptu roadtrips, always making me feel safe when I'm lost.
For always taking inclimate weather like a champ.
And not minding crazy campus traffic and drivers. You never let them get to you.
And for allowing me to get great fuel economy. If I want to.
For those who hate Panthers, and have never owned one...give the old land barge a try before you consign them to the history books. You might just fall in love.
As long as I can afford her, I'm never selling mine.

I'm impressed you managed to get 34mpg. Guessing it'll only do that on a long smooth highway journey though.

Yeah, it gets about 21.5 mpg around town, and roughly 28 reliably with the a/c on during highway stints. That was on a day with virtually no wind, a/c off, etc. "best case scenario"

Loved the write up!
I miss my own, but with the gearing and my lead foot I couldn't get over 24MPG with it. And it was horrible in the winter where I lived, since they would never plow my street until the day AFTER a snow storm.
Other than that, best car I ever owned.

2.7 gears help in the fuel economy front, and I doubt mine has ever seen snow haha. I assume that color isn't stock?

Still not bad for a big v8 comfy boat. I've seen people who get worse out of hot hatches.

It looks like an ex-detective car to me.

It doesn't have tint though, which is strange.

Oh you can get worse out of it. Just step on the go pedal a few times and you're sitting at 15 mpg.

I'm not calling BS, but seriously……..I can't believe that's your average.

I've gotten worse outta a goddamn Hyundai with a manual.

I only got 34 once, the A/C was off, and there wasn't really any wind. However, it will always get at least 29 when you're cruising between 65 and 67 mph, even with the a/c on.
Hooray for granny gearing!

When driven carefully our lighter 1.9 diesel family wagon gets 38ish. Driven a little harder it dips under 30.

Damn man, that rocks! Whenever I'd drive conservatively I'd get 28mpg MAX outta the Sonata.

Does the merc panther have leather seats? I have a soft spot for later panthers, but I hate ford's fabric upholstory material that they used in the 00s

GS models have cloth, LS models have leather. But there are a few GSs out there with leather because I think Ford kind of gave up the whole trim level thing near the end.
This photo was taken at 80k miles, they look slightly worse now at 90k, but still in very good shape.
